FREE CONTAINER OPTION: Use any old trash can or container already sitting around. Works fine in the cold months to store up to a week. Expect fruit flies in warm months unless you're emptying into something outside every 2-3 days.

FANCY CONTAINER OPTION: This stainless steel compost bin looks great and has a charcoal filter to deter fruit flies. The downside is that at 1.3 gallons, it won't hold much. But it’s a good companion when paired with …

RECOMMENDED CONTAINER OPTION: Get any 5-gallon bucket and lid like you see at Lowes or Mendards. We like this one since it’s green, food-grade, and BPA-free.

There's enough volume to suffice most families for up to a week, and the lid deters fruit flies.

BAGS OR NO BAGS: We don’t require you to use compostable bags. You can also use plastic bags at home. We just DO NOT want plastic bags to wind up in our drop-off containers.

But be warned, if you try to buy compostable bags online, you might get tricked into buying the wrong thing. There’s lots of confusing language. Only get bags that are BPI certified.

TRANSPORTING: Place your container in a secure place in your car and drop off on the way to work or doing errands.

Most drop-off sites have a volume capacity of 64-192 gallons. This works great for food waste, non-recyclable paper, and other small-item compostables.

If you have a large amount of yard material, say more than your typical 30-gallon yard waste bag, then we suggest bringing it to the Soil Dynamics Downtown Yard, which can take an unlimited amount of material.

So if you have tree branches or doing a big spring clean-up, this would be the place to take it (it's also where you redeem your soil). This site also accepts glass bottles & jars.

See the link for hours of operation. You can drop off during our off-hours, too. We just asked that loose yard waste is dropped off during business hours. Bagged yard waste can be left outside gate by Compost Club carts. If we're open, please come on in and say hello!

Compost Credits: Upon becoming a member, and every calendar year of membership after, you get 3-cubic FEET of any soil blend, compost, or mulch. We call these “compost credits.” Please note cubic feet, not yards :).

Plus you get 20% off any compost, soil, or mulch product we carry anytime of the year, as many times as you'd like.

Example: If you became a member in December, you can redeem product right away. Or if you wait until the spring, you'll actually get 6 cubic feet! Then your 3 cubic feet of product will refresh the next year.

Donate Your Compost Credits: Every spring, we offer you a chance to donate unclaimed credits to select food gardens via our Compost Club Gives campaign.

Currently there are two passwords to remember. One is the same password given to all members to log-in to the members-only map. You can find this in any one of the invoices we email to you each month from maggie@hillside.solutions. The other is the password/username you created when you signed up for your membership the first time. We don't know this password, but you can reset it if you forget. Just click on "SIGN IN" or "MY ACCOUNT" in the upper right hand corner of our website.

Yes! Many people compost both ways. At home, you can primarily compost the big three (yard waste, veggie and fruit scraps). While using our program, you can compost all the other things you can’t do at home, like meat, dairy, bones, and BPI certified compostable serveware.

Yes! We pre-screen for contaminates before items are picked up and also on-site. When working with farmers, we verify that any chemicals they apply to crops are the type that safely break down in our composting process. And when we work with partners that give us a large amount of material, like fiber trays from Omaha Public Schools, we verify that those items are safely compostable. In the case of OPS, we received a signed letter from the manufacuturer going on record that no PFAS were used to make the trays.

Eligibility: Businesses, schools, churches, or non-profit organizations can host. Must have room for 1 to 3 64-gallon carts (each 25’’ by 32’’) in a space that’s always accessible.

Benefits: Be recognized by engaged eco-consumers as friendly to the environment while creating incentives for our members who use your location to patronize your business.

Safety & Cleanliness: Carts are locked & only members have access. Carts can be chained to existing structures to deter theft or toppling. Our team empties the carts & changes the bags once a week so your team doesn’t have to do anything.

Accessibility: Only Compost Club members have access to carts. If your organization would like to dispose of compostables into Compost Club carts, contact us for price details.

As a means to protect your personal information, we can’t change your email address, log-in info, or payment info. We can cancel your subscription, but you can also do that yourself anytime.

If you need to change your email address, you'll need to cancel your current subscription, then create a new profile/log-in before purchasing another Compost Club subscription.

To make your own changes to payment or subscription, click on "SIGN IN" or “MY ACCOUNT" at the top right of this page and use the account sign-in info you created upon your subscription purchase. Click Subscriptions. Click Payment Method.
